The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour (CAAT) 2017 is an ambitious and exciting Canada 150 Project. July 1, 2017, Canada marks the sesquicentennial anniversary of Canadian Confederation.

Canada 150
The 150th anniversary of Canada is celebrated and promoted by the Canadian Government as “Canada 150”.
As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, the Canadian Forces CF-18 Hornet Demo Team specially painted the Demo CF-188 Hornet to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.
North of 60
The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour (CAAT 2017) will help bring Canada 150 celebrations to Indigenous communities and people of the North. Every Canadian should have the opportunity to celebrate Canada 150.

The CAAT Canada 150 project is using the wonder of flight to help unite a nation in celebration. EVERY Canadian should have the opportunity to celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday.
A handful of aviators from Rocky Mountain House, Alberta came up with the concept for the Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour. They wanted to extend Canada 150 celebrations North of 60.
97 Air Shows
This Canada 150 project will see 97 air shows performed North of 60. The eleven week Arctic Tour runs from June 2 until August 18, 2017. During the span of the tour, there will be performances in almost every Arctic community.
World Record
The CAAT intends to set a world record for the longest series of Air Shows North of 60.
31,000 Kilometres
The CAAT is a 97 stop, 11 week Air Show across Canada’s Arctic region covering 31,000 Kilometres. As part of the tour, there will be Air Shows across the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, northern Manitoba, northern Quebec and Labrador.
The shows will vary at different stops along the tour. There will be “Wheels Down” Shows, and “Wheels Up” Shows, and shows will range from small to large depending upon the facilities, performers, and location. Many municipalities are offering additional activities and entertainment around their local air show to create an afternoon of festivities to celebrate Canada 150 North of 60.

CF-18 Hornet Jet
The RCAF’s CF-18 Demonstration Team will be performing at five of the Arctic Tour locations during its 2017 Air Show season. The CF-18 Hornet Jet Demo Team will join the other aircraft and performers on the CAAT.
Performers
15 aircraft and pilots will take part in the Arctic Tour. Each show will be different, and not all performers will fly at every show. There are many challenges and obstacles facing the pilots and their aircraft. Much of the Arctic is unforgiving terrain. Some of the stops on the Tour have gravel runways, and they are “Remote” areas that are only accessible by air.
Alert, Nunavut
The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour will perform in Alert, Nunavut. Alert is located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. With a population of 62, Alert is the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world!
Captain Matthew “Glib” Kutryk
The Pilot of the 2017 CF-18 Hornet Demo Jet is Captain Matthew “Glib” Kutryk. Capt. Kutryk will entertain audiences around North America during the 2017 air show season.
Capt. Kutryk will be flying his specially painted CF-18 Hornet Jet commemorating Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation. The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour is excited to have Capt. Kutryk and the CF-18 Hornet Demo Team join them at several stops along the Arctic Tour.
The Granley Family
Pilot Bud Granley and his Yak-55 aircraft will be performing on the Arctic Tour North of 60.
Bud’s son, Ross Granley is also a pilot, and the Father/Son Team perform the “Yak Dual”. The Granley Family performs an aerobatic show featuring the two Yak aircraft.

The “Yak Dual” performance, featuring Bud and Ross Granely in their Red and White Yak Aircraft is an awesome Air Show performance on the Arctic Tour.

The Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour has assembled a group of dedicated pilots and support team. The Performers and Aircraft may vary depending upon location. Everyone involved will do their best to share their love of Aviation and Canada to as they tour remote areas North of 60.

Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour 2017
In addition to the Air Show Tour, there is a very large educational component that will be part of the Arctic Tour. As the CAAT visits different locations North of 60, there will be planned outreach events to students in classrooms. Students will learn more about aviation and the students will be encouraged to reach for their goals.
The Arctic Tour will work with many Partners including the “WE Movement” (www.we.org), the Air Show industry’s Ryan Poe Foundation, the Literacy Legacy Project, and renowned Métis speaker, author and educator David Bouchard. Arctic Tour 150 has tremendous support from many levels of governments, the Department of National Defense, regulatory bodies, non-profit organizations, corporations and indigenous groups.
Baker Lake, Nunavut
On Canada’s 150th Birthday, July 1, 2017, the Arctic Tour will be in Baker Lake, Nunavut. This is very appropriate, considering Baker Lake is the the geographic centre of Canada! The Arctic Tour will celebrate Canada 150 from the centre of Canada on Canada’s 150th Birthday.
Team Rocket
Pilot Ken Fowler of Team Rocket is Lead Performer of Arctic Tour 150. Ken is an Air Show veteran and Airport Manager of the Rocky Mountain House Airport located in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada.
Ken Fowler and his wife Wendy, and their close friend Nancy McClure, and other loyal supporters were the inspiration for the Canadian Arctic Aviation Tour.
